Description

This project involves the rehabilitation of 6 No. bridges in County Galway namely Cloonahinch 2 Bridge, Ballinderry Bridge, Munterowen Bridge, Gortacarnaun Bridge, Cohennaheeny Bridge and White Bridge. These works are on regional roads throughout the county.

There is an individual plan for the rehabilitation of each bridge but collectively the works required under the contract are as follows

  • Vegetation clearance from each bridge.
  • Masonry Repairs using lime mortar and repointing of stonework.
  • Repointing of arch barrels.
  • Concrete repairs to arch barrel.
  • Extention of bridge structure through the construction of an in-situ concrete arch.
  • Extention of bridge through the installation of pre-cast culverts.
  • Construction of Masonry abutment and spandrel walls.
  • Installation of Tie-Bars and pattress plates.
  • Construction of embankments for supporting the road.
  • Prevention of scour through the installation of Rock Armour
  • Installation of concrete rubbing strips.
  • Carraigeway re-surfacing and re-lining.
  • Installation of Safety Crash Barrier.
  • Re-alignment of stream and installation of Rock armour at bends
As these works are being carried out in environmentally sensitive areas the works must be meticulously planned taking into account all research carried out on the bridge during the design process.

Works are carried out in co-operation with Government bodies such as Inland Fisheries and the NWPS (National Parks and Wildlife Service).
